Work related violence or trauma can have serious consequences for individuals and organisations. But incidents will occur and staff need to be able to deal with them effectively.
Some organisations think that by referring people to counselling services following an incident their aftercare responsibilities are covered. But our experience shows that what people need is validation, support and assistance from their managers: this support at an early stage will aid victims’ resilience and recovery.
Shackman Ellen’s work has a positive impact on staff morale and reduces absenteeism. Rapport between staff and managers is strengthened, demonstrating to staff that managers care and take their experiences seriously.
